Every day I feel honored to work and be part of a team that is dedicated to improving health and saving lives. The caring culture resonates in all areas of Philips, from our research teams to the service delivery of our products, and also personally for me amongst my team.
In January 2015, our youngest daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer and at that moment our world was changed forever. After sharing the news, we received an outpouring of heartfelt support from family and friends. The response and support I received at work from my manager and colleagues really struck me.
There are days when I try to juggle work and family commitments, and every day I am so grateful for the support that Philips has offered to me. From rescheduling meetings, to sharing my workload tasks among the team when times are tough, to that friendly voice and hug when I need it most.
In addition to the support I received at work, I had a different perspective this past year on an event that Philips sponsors. Philips Canada has been a long time sponsor for the Run for Cure, the largest single day event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer in Canada. This year my daughter’s friends and family formed a team to participate in the event. Last year I donated in honor of a colleague who was diagnosed with breast cancer and today is a survivor. Little did I know then, that she would be a “lifeline” for me and my daughter just a few months later.
Caring at Philips is truly universal, whether it’s in our product and service offerings or internally with employees. It is very meaningful to have family at home, but also at work. Philips will always be part of my family.
