Eindhoven, The Netherlands - Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) has won the much sought-after Gold iF product design award for the Pedestrian LED Luminaire. This accolade crowns another extremely successful year for the Dutch company in this renowned and prestigious international design competition, in which it picked up an additional 20 awards. This is further confirmation of Philips'’ acclaimed design approach that combines technological sense with user friendliness.
Promoting social interaction
The Pedestrian LED Luminaire breaks new ground by combining the proven benefits of LED lighting - such as extremely long lifespan and very low energy use - with the need for a welcoming ambience in the urban environment that promotes social interaction and increases the feeling of safety. Its design language is also striking, with the fluid luminaire and bracket shapes creating a smooth transition between the lighting and the innovative square mast.
The LEDs in Pedestrian LED Luminaire should last for approximately 50,000 hours, which is three times as long as lamps currently used in similar situations. The light distribution on the ground is very uniform due to the high-efficiency lenses. Its robust, solid aluminium construction is able to withstand the rigours of an outdoor environment. The Pedestrian LED Luminaire is intended for illuminating pathways, squares, shopping areas and any other places where an architectural pedestrian lighting solution is required.
Leaders in lighting and medical
In the iF Lighting category, in addition to the success of the Pedestrian LED Luminaire, there were awards for the Crestbay Luminaire, LED Architectural Floodlight, Savio Range and Master Traffic Signalling Lamp. Other successful categories for Philips included Medicine, with the Practix Convenio mobile radiography unit, and Industry/Buildings, in which ‘The Philips Experience’ came out on top.
Winning lifestyle products
Philips was successful in a number of other categories as well. The Consumer Electronics category produced seven winners; the 23” ME5P LCD TV, Digital Photo Display, HDD6320 GoGear Jukebox, RC9800i Touch Screen Remote Control, SHC8680 Indoor Wireless Headphones, SRU9600 Universal Remote Control and the VP5500 Home Video Phone. There were also three Philips award winners in the Household/Residential category; the HD5410 Aluminium Café Gourmet, HD2618 Aluminium Toaster and the SKM7000 DECT Baby Monitor Range.
