RSNA provides showcase for our patient focus

Simplicity makes Philips distinct

Attendees at this year’s RSNA will see that Simplicity is the defining theme at the all white, sleek Philips booth. Philips Medical Systems will expand on this theme, explaining that “Simplicity is a clear view of patient data and a clear path to patient care.” Again, through Simplicity, Philips Medical Systems is highlighting systems that help doctors focus better on patients – an area where Philips offers a distinctive difference.

CEO, Steve Rusckowski, explains, “Any imaging company can provide clinicians with a lot of data. But at Philips, we strive to intuitively, instantly and accurately pinpoint the right information to help physicians, nurses and technologists provide the best possible patient care.”

Faster, easier systems make their debut

With this in mind, one of the key introductions at the show is the BrightView SPECT (single photon emission computed tomography) system. It is a compact nuclear medicine camera that delivers outstanding image quality, but is also fast and easy for doctors to use. And it is designed to ensure all patients – whatever their size – have a comfortable experience.

The new GEMINI TF combined PET/CT system will also be unveiled. This system is used in the detection and treatment of cancer, as well as cardiology, neurology and molecular imaging. Its great advantage is speed. It can acquire images much faster than other systems, which means patients are exposed to less radiation and scans are finished far more quickly – a whole body scan now needs less than 10 minutes.

Helping doctors detect disease early

The impressive list of new systems on show also pays testimony to Philips’ ambition to be a leader in the early detection of disease. The xLNA Enterprise 2.0 computer-aided detection (CAD) software is a great example of this. Doctors perform thousands of chest X-rays every day. With this new software, these can be turned into an early warning system, allowing early detection of small nodules on the lung.

Ambient Experience moves into the Cath Lab

On top of all this, visitors can discover the next step in Ambient Experience – the Ambient Experience Catheterization (Cath) Lab.

With its unique ‘light show’ and comforting atmosphere, the Ambient Experience CT suite has been taking the stress out of scans for children at Chicago’s Advocate Lutheran General Hospital for over a year.

The Ambient Experience Cath Lab similarly embodies Philips’ vision of thinking ‘beyond the system’. The imaging suite is less cluttered with no unnecessary physical barriers, so patients and staff are at ease, and doctors can work more efficiently.

Like all Philips systems at the RNSA 2006, it illustrates Philips’ distinctive approach to healthcare, showing how the focus on simplicity streamlines workflows, provides better clinical insights and improves patient care.
