Our Sustainability Heritage

We have been improving people’s lives with pioneering innovations since our company was founded in 1891. Sustainability is built into our heritage, our values and our mission to improve the quality of people’s lives through the timely introduction of meaningful innovations.

Then and now
Our founders were at the forefront, providing pensions, sick pay and medical care in the early days of the company. They built housing for employees in Eindhoven, and set up sporting and cultural activities. They also provided primary and secondary schools, and a foundation to finance college scholarships for employees’ children.

Today we continue to be true to our heritage, integrating social equity, environmental quality and economic prosperity. We have signed on to the UN Global Compact, established to advance 10 universal principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption. With a tradition of sound environmental policy for more than 30 years, we are guided by the basic principle that prevention is better than cure.

We recognize that sustainability offers a world of opportunities to improve quality of life and deliver value to individuals, communities and the company. We firmly believe that socially and environmentally sound behavior contributes to sustained profitable growth and value creation.
