GREAT razor -- have had for over six years. Loved it! Unfortunately, when looking for a replacement head a few months ago I found out they no longer make the same head - a replacement is offered but doesn't do nearly the same job (the new one pulls and cuts).
Not sure why they felt to discontinue this one, but now I'm looking for a new razor.

Rated 1 out of 5 by KennyG Rated a 5 star until I needed to replace RQ12 head (discontinued) with inferior RQ12+
For the first year the Norelco 1280XCC with the RQ12 head was to date the best Norelco razor I have ever owned and I've had about 7 or 8 over the past 40 years. I only upgrade about every 5 years to get the latest technology not because the old ones stopped working. After about 18 months I attempted to find a new head or just fresh cutters and found the head discontinued and replaced with the only option the RQ12+. Since every razor I have gotten was a better shave over the previous I expected even better results. What a mistake! The RQ12+ is bad! Noisy, rough, irritating shave not nearly as close, comfortable or fast as the original RQ12. It's a giant step backwards in shave quality of at least 20 years. Don't your engineers test a new product before discontinuing the old? I've searched for hours online and nobody has any RQ12's left except for a couple gougers charging more than the entire razor or Chinese replacements of questionable quality. My favorite shaver now is nearly worthless and I've gone back to using my old 9195XL...or the now over 2 year old original head that shaves smoother and closer than the new 12+! I've tried foil razors in the past but have always preferred the triple heads. Guess I'll have to give the competitors latest another try as it appears Norelco has lost there edge.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Originalgyp0 Why did they change the design....
When i bought this razor it came with a head where the 3 would open up seperatly on a spring it was the most comfortable and incredible shave id ever had.. Now the design has changed. It pulls the hair it tears my face up its noisy and takes twice as long to shave. Not worth the money. Im going to change my brand completely. Its almost as if they know that the guys who bought the original loved it and then philips decided to make a cheaper head. Not a lot of people will change to a new brand because of the original price that was payed for the razor...shame...shame.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JasonC Extremely poor replacement for RQ12 shaver heads
Unbelievably poor quality replacement head. Quality of the shave is poorer, and causes more irritation than the original RQ12 head because it requires several passes to get a close shave. Noisier, and does not glide over the face as smoothly. The original RQ12 head had much more articulation and therefore adjusted to the face much better, the RQ12+ replacement is clearly made much more cheaply than the original RQ12, yet offered at a premium price. I am also told that there is no alternative replacement, so I am now left with a very expensive paperweight. Very, very disappointed in Norelco, will no longer be a customer after this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Ryderdawg Works fine even though not as solid feeling
Don't let the whiners stop you from buying and using this product. Yes, it's not as heavily built as the previous incarnation (with the cutters that rotate up for cleaning) and it has a cheaper feel. It shaves just as well as the older shaving head and is perhaps easier to clean with the cutters being removable as a snap in module that detaches easily for cleaning. However, Phillips has gone the route of ink jet printers (inexpensive printer, pricey ink). In this case a new razor costs slightly more than the replacement shaving head.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Mike98148 Disappointing Philips Turned its Tail and Ran From its Problem
Shavers like mine that use the RQ 12 head were great. I never used a shaver before and fell in love with the
my shaver. Fast forward to blade replacement time, Philips purposelessly degrades the replacement blades/head (RQ12+) destroying the shaver's quality. The replacement is so bad the shaver cannot be used anymore because of the noise and dull blades that rip the face. Philips knows how bad it srewed up and instead tuck tail and ran hiding hoping the market will move on to newer shavers. I bought the shaver little more than a year ago plus now the the replacement head. Both are are in the trash.
I called Philips with no satisfaction. They know about the problem but will not be addressing it. It was suggested I purchase a new Philips shaver for more than twice the price if i want the same quality results and then throw it away in a year because the replacement heads will have the same lack of quality.
