Good Video MonitorWe were excited to try a new type of monitor. While our youngest is not a baby anymore, she is our worst sleeper and it is nice to "see" what she is doing.
We found the set up and ability to change settings very easy. The sound and video quality was great for us. We did not opt to mount the camera, but have it sitting on a shelf near the crib, and the flexibility of the camera is great. The sound functions work for us, however, we use a white noise machine and don't use the music very often.
The challenge for us is finding the best place to get a solid feed. It seems that the white noise maker interferes with a solid signal and the connectivity kept me awake. We need to keep playing with places we can set it up farther away from the noise maker to see if that makes a difference.
I got a chance to try this monitor as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel, and am glad we had the chance to experience the modern technology of baby monitors.

Easy-to-use, high-quality digital video baby monitorWe received the Philips Avent Digital Video Baby Monitor as a gift from the weeSpring Parent Panel…and it has been a total game changer.
The monitor has a simple design, which makes set-up easy right out of the box. The monitor is easy to operate, with all features being intuitive. The quality of the video is clear, especially during the day. During the night, we found the video to have some noise but was still clear enough for a good picture. We liked that the connection is wi-fi free making it safe. The size of the parent monitor and screen is sufficient. We are able to see exactly what we need to see. The temperature feature was an extra bonus that we found to be very useful. Our son is sensitive to temperature while he sleeps so this allowed us to monitor the temperature and adjust it to his comfort level.
Overall, we would highly recommend this to someone who is looking for a easy-to-use, high-quality digital video baby monitor. There are only a few features that we found that could use some improvements. The talkback feature made the sound of our voice somewhat robotic and/or unrecognizable which startled our son. Also, our son did not like the lullaby feature because the sound was very electronic in tone. White noise and/or nature sounds may be better for the quality of the sound that this monitor plays.

Good monitor - privacy offsets limited motionOverall I like this monitor because it was simple to set up and the basic functions are good.
- Great screen, good picture even in the dark
- The battery life on the monitor is great – we use it ~5 hours during the day unplugged and then we plug it in at night
- We have no signal problems, and are mostly using it two flights down from where the baby sleeps
- The temperature seems accurate – our old monitor also noted the temperature, but I think it wasn’t accurate, so wasn’t useful. This one seems better.
- I like the idea of a secure, private connection as I have a friend who got hacked and thought she was going nuts
- You don’t have very much control over the camera; you can’t move it around much. That’s fine if you can find the right position to either see the whole crib or if you have a little baby who doesn’t move yet.
- The interface is a little clunky – it took a while to figure out which buttons do what and it wasn’t very intuitive. Although maybe it was hard for me because I’m so used to a different monitor.
We don’t use a lot of the features like the songs, talkback, or vibration alert settings, but they I tested them just to see how they work. Once you figure out the right path or get your alerts set up, they seem pretty easy to use. Thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this monitor!

Pretty good monitorI liked a lot of things about this monitor, but found that it didn't work well for my family. The large display is quite clear and the battery lasts a long time. I also liked that I could monitor the temperature in the baby's room. Additionally, I liked that this monitor functioned without the use of wifi.
However, I was unable to mount the unit to the wall because of the limited range of movement of the camera. I was also unable to utilize the vox and eco modes because the white noise machine in the room was loud enough to trigger the screen to illuminate and remain illuminated all night. At night I had to turn it to just audio and then scroll through the menu again to get a visual if the baby made noise. The parent unit is a bit bulky.

Very impressed with this gem of a monitorWe've been using this monitor for the last week or so and its been pretty good. During the day, the screen resolution is top notch with a nice, clear image. It was nice being able to glance at the screen to get an idea of what was happening without studying it for several seconds. It's done a great job at picking up relevant audio from general background noises and the Night Vision is super clear. I didn't get a chance to try out the temperature monitoring feature but it seems like a great feature for newborns. The range for the monitor is pretty good but I did notice interference when going two stories down. Not the worst thing in the world though. I especially like the night light feature on the camera. It's not too bright, but it gives off just enough light to be able to check on our boy. I can't attest to the battery life since I mainly left it plugged in. Thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this monitor!

Great monitor! This is a great monitor, I would highly recommend! I had borrowed a monitor from a friend when my son was first born and I much prefer this one. I love that the monitor stands up on its own, you can just glance over to see the picture, you don't have to prop it up on anything. The battery life is excellent. I can make it a few days on a charge. It also has exceptional range. I can leave my son asleep in his crib, run down to the laundry room in the basement, all while keeping eyes and ears on baby. The only downfall--and it really isn't even that big of a deal--is I wish you could do certain functions, like zoom, without having to access the menu. It'd be nice to have buttons on the monitor to do such things. But it definitely isn't a deal breaker, I would recommend this over other monitors I've tried. Thanks to the weeSpring Parent Panel for the chance to test this monitor out!

Great features but cons outweigh prosPros:
Long battery life
Ability to set a sensitivity level
Several different modes that will activate the display based on certain parameters (e.g. sound detected, movement detected, etc.)
Ability to pan the camera when zoomed
Poor night time video quality
Inability to adjust camera in a lot of angles when mounted on the wall
Inability to add additional cameras
Despite the long list of pros for this baby monitor, I would not recommend it over other similar priced monitors on the market due to the first three cons listed above. These for me, far outweigh any positives the Philips Avent monitor might have to offer. I will elaborate a little more on the cons I noted:
- Night time video quality: while the video quality when there is light in the room is quite good, the nighttime camera looks like you are staring at an ultrasound screen (READ: grainy and not good). And since a baby monitor is primarily used during the night, I found this to be a huge drawback
- Wall mounted camera: I was actually unable to use this monitor in the room I had originally planned due to an inability to mount the camera in a way that would capture my baby in his crib. There are limitations with the angles of the camera and I really wasn’t interested in creating a huge eyesore by having a camera w/cord mounted in the middle of the wall above my baby’s crib. And with no shelving in the room to place the camera, I was forced to use it in my toddler’s room.
- No second camera: for families with more than one young child, or the desire to install more than one camera, this is not the monitor for you. We have a different monitor that allows you to add up to 4 cameras and pan between the various cameras all from the same parent unit. What a fantastic feature!

A Great Baby Monitor!I typically have my significant other handle the electronics, but I decided to take a stab at operating this item. This monitor is super user friendly. We’ve tried it out for a week and are happy with it!
The camera moves up and down and size to side. The range of motion is unfortunately not that great - it took quite a bit of time to line up the camera to the entire crib. I also wish the zoom feature would move in and out - it only has one zoom setting.
The monitor screen is a good size and the imaging is clear, even with night vision. The menu is easy to navigate. You can play songs remotely and use the soft baby nightlight to help your little one sleep (although the night light feature is very dim). Like most monitors, the songs themselves are not very fluid sounding - however, they do play full songs, instead of just a few notes. (So many monitors only play a few notes of a song, which is wildly distracting to listen to throughout the night through the monitor!) The monitor has a clip so you can use it hands-free. We walked around our 2-bedroom house with the monitor and haven't had an issue with connectivity.
Just to test out the battery life, we used this item from 9PM-5AM unplugged and would charge during the day. We have not run across issues with a low battery – impressive! To save the battery life, the monitor can be voice activated so that the screen and volume turn on if your baby starts crying.
Critiques: We could hear a considerable amount of background noise through the monitor. The camera itself is light and can easily topple over. The camera's range of motion needs some work The nightlight and song features aren't that great.
Final Notes: This monitor system is easy to use for parents and gets the job done. It is a solid addition for any household.
A huge thank you to the weeSpring Parent Panel for sending me this monitor!
