You should receive all the help and support you need from your healthcare professional, but if you find there are certain problems they don’t seem to understand,
don’t panic!
While the care and support you receive from your Healthcare Professional should be beneficial to both you and your baby, problems can sometimes arise and it’s important that you feel that your
concerns are being listened to and taken seriously.
What you can do:
Write down a list of all your concerns.
Keep a diary of when and why you are concerned.
Take these with you when you see your health pediatrician so that you don’t forget to mention anything.
If you’re still concerned when your pediatrician does not think there is a problem, ask them to refer you to another Healthcare Professional for a second opinion. This could be:
A community pediatrician if it is a general or medical problem or developmental delay.
A dietician if it is a problem with feeding.
A speech and language specialist if it is a problem with sucking and swallowing.
A child psychologist if you feel very anxious, stressed or depressed.
