How much weight should you expect to gain during pregnancy? Is it a problem if you gain too much or too little weight?
Normal weight gain during pregnancy is around 26lbs for women who were a healthy weight at conception. If you were overweight at the time of conception, you shouldn’t diet during pregnancy.
If you gain too much weight during pregnancy, you may suffer from gestational diabetes or pre-eclampsia, and have difficulties during delivery. You might also find it more difficult to lose your baby weight after the birth.
However, if you don’t gain enough weight during pregnancy, your baby may have a low birth weight. Some babies born with a low birth weight may have future health problems.
