Dr. Salber is founder and CEO of Health Tech Hatch, a company dedicated to helping healthcare innovators and entrepreneurs tell their stories to the world. The Hatch team produces high quality video interviews that are used by funders, accelerators, and others to learn about health tech innovation and innovators. In addition, Dr. Salber hosts a variety of media outlets under the brand, The Doctor Weighs In, including a popular, widely read health blog, a weekly internet radio show, and creative media/social media services for healthcare companies and conferences. She is a frequent guest commentator on various radio and TV shows. She also provides consultation to CMS’ Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight.

 

Dr. Salber is currently an Advisor to both for-profit and NPF organizations including:

   

  • CliniOps (innovative data capture platform for clinical trials)
  • mHealth Solutions (CareSmarts is their text messaging program for diabetic adherence)
  •  DoctorBase (a mobile engagement platform for doctors)
  • MedShare (repurposes medical equipment and supplies)
  • Care for Peace (building Mini-Medical Centers in Myanmar)

 

She is an experienced physician executive who has held many different leadership roles in a variety of areas of health care including Chief Medical Officer of a Medicare Advantage plan as well as the Center for Practical Health Reform. She served as the first Physician Director of National Accounts for Kaiser Permanente and spent six years on loan from Kaiser to General Motors to help shape their health plan strategy. Other positions include Senior Medical Director at Blue Shield of California and Founder and CEO of Acelacare (“Minute Clinics” for chronic illness)

 

Prior to moving into administration, Dr. Salber practiced front line emergency medicine at Kaiser Permanente in both San Francisco and South San Francisco.

 

She went to UC Berkeley for undergraduate and master’s level graduate school. Then she attended medical school and trained in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at the University of California, San Francisco. She completed a Pew Fellowship in Health Policy at the same institution. She has an MBA from the University of California, Irvine.

 

 

She was the first woman to serve as President of the California Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians and she went on to serve on the board of the national organization. She was also on the Board and served in several officer positions of the San Francisco Medical Society, Chaired the Legislative Committee of the California Medical Association and was a board member of the California Medical Association Foundation.

 

She founded Physicians for a Violence-Free Society while working full-time as an Emergency Physician and served as its President for more than ten years. Pat has been honored with many awards over the years including being featured on the cover of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan’s 1997 Annual Report for outstanding contributions to the Program. She serves on the editorial boards of several journals and as a peer-reviewer for many others. She is a frequent speaker and author of a book (The Physicians Guide to Intimate Partner Violence and Abuse), numerous textbook chapters and well as journal articles.
