Top 5 Private Payers Cover CT Colonography
The five largest U.S. private health insurance payers now cover CT colonography for colon cancer screening without requiring patient copayment, according to the American College of Radiology (ACR). Aetna initiated coverage in April, 2017, preceded by UnitedHealthcare, Anthem/Wellpoint, CIGNA, and Healthcare Services Corporation (HCSC).
ACR says that the coverage is a result of a 2016 recommendation by the United States Preventive Services Task Force giving an overall A rating for the quality of evidence supporting screening of adults 50 – 75 years old. Under the 2010 Affordable Care Act, commercial health insurers are required to cover preventive services without imposing patient co-pays for services given such high evidence ratings.
