Philips introduces multi-modality breast workspace to improve care cycle for breast cancer patients

March 5, 2010

Vienna, Austria - Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) today presents its new integral breast workspace at the European Congress of Radiology 2010. The Integral Breast Workspace comprises a set of solutions to review multi-modality breast images at one work spot to help drive quality and efficiency. Showcasing its commitment to breast care, Philips will also display its portfolio of diagnostic imaging systems in Mammography, Ultrasound, and MRI, supported by leading edge information technology.

Multi-modality breast workspace
Globally, breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women1. Radiologists are challenged with an increasing number of breast patients and the need to review data from multiple modalities. They need to keep up with an increased volume of breast studies that often need to be interpreted and reported on multiple workstations. Philips Integral Breast Workspace solution addresses this need for integrated image and information management. Radiologists welcome the smart integration of modalities to help them to provide better care to their patients.

“Philips WHC is focused on developing technologies that enhance care services provided to women,” said Pat Venters, vice president, Women's Healthcare and Oncology Care Cycle Programs.  “The Integral Breast Workspace solution has been developed to address the Radiologist’s need for integrated breast image and information management to assist in diagnosis.  It provides the ability to review Mammography in conjunction with Ultrasound and MRI and takes it a step further by seamlessly interfacing advanced processing capabilities.”

The Integral Breast Workspace
Philips Integral Breast Workspace solution integrates Mammography, Ultrasound, and MRI studies on a single workspot for review and reporting. It provides radiologists a complete picture by enabling the review of all breast exams in conjunction with each other. Besides multi-modality, it is also a multi-vendor workstation. The Integral Breast Workspace solution includes the MammoDiagnost VU, Multi-Modality Breast Applications and DynaCAD Enterprise for advanced data analysis. The system addresses the need for integrated image and information management and integrates complete BI-RADS® reporting for Mammography, Ultrasound and MRI. It also helps to streamline workflow by providing single-click comparisons with automated multi-modality presentation of patient history.

Philips mammography portfolio

MammoDiagnost DR*
The MammoDiagnost DR is Philips’ digital solution for mammography and is designed for efficient high-volume screening. It provides exceptional image quality as a result of Philips’ UNIQUE image processing software. The intuitive, streamlined Eleva user interface at the console makes working with the system comfortable and efficient for the radiographer and allows for a quick and easy examination for the patient.  It integrates seamlessly into existing PACS via DICOM for convenient and fast information transfer and archiving.

MammoDiagnost VU
The MammoDiagnost VU is Philips’ dedicated diagnostic viewing workstation for mammography.  Unlike general systems, it is specifically designed to handle the high volumes of data occurring in mammography and switching between examinations takes less than a second. MammoDiagnost VU supports the entire imaging process and allows customization according to individual preferences.

SecondLook® Digital* – CAD software for Mammography
SecondLook® Digital from iCAD is Philips’ new computer-aided solution for early breast cancer detection.  It supports physicians in identifying and marking suspicious areas.  The software works with both Philips’ DR and CR mammography solutions.

Enhancing breast imaging with ultrasound

iU22 Ultrasound System & Elastography
The Vision 2010 upgrade on the premium iU22 ultrasound system will diversify the range of diagnostic tools and expand the capabilities of the platform by highlighting Philips’ developments in elastography.  Elastography adds to the existing features of the iU22, including volume imaging, tissue aberration correction and SmartExam, which make it well-suited for breast imaging.

Elastography on the iU22 system with the L12-5 transducer and Advanced Breast Tissue Specific Imaging (TSI) preset enables clinicians to differentiate relative stiffness of tissue through sonographic examination.

MRI workflow solutions and truly patient-adaptive technology

Elite Breast MRI
