How do we overcome the status quo?

Do these startups hold the solution to global challenges?

The world today faces many great societal challenges. The global population will grow to nine billion by 2050, meaning more demand for food, water and energy. Urbanization means larger cities with often more than 20 million people in need of a safe, healthy and inspiring environment. And aging societies and the rise of chronic diseases means healthcare costs are spiraling out of control.

But there are also trends that give us hope for a healthier, happier and more energy efficient future. Trends like the rise in digital innovation, the unlikely partnerships of industry, academia, startups and government, and the adoption of an open, consumer driven ecosystem that puts the needs of individuals at the forefront of all we do.

We are optimistic about overcoming the status quo, and we are excited about the work of some of the startups featured at the 1776 Challenge Festival – an event that promises to deliver some of the most innovative solutions to our world’s most pressing needs.

With the challenges of tomorrow and the fresh talent, technological advances and policy liberalization of today, there are new rules and roles. Tinkering around the edges of the status quo will simply not be enough.
