Why I love working for Philips as a Software Engineer

Name: Brandon Phillips

Role: Software Engineering at Philips

Title: Software Engineer

Location: Bothell, WA

Time with Philips: 3+ years

Interests & Passions: Technology and Philanthropy

I'm Brandon Phillips, and I’m a Software Engineer at Philips Healthcare. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Philips twice for a total of three years. This most recent opportunity was presented to me by a Philips recruiter who had discovered my resume on a job board while I was looking for new opportunities upon wrapping up a project with Microsoft.

It was great timing too since I was looking for my next employer to have a stronger and more refined sense of community and teamwork, and this, for me, is one of the major characteristics of Philips that sets us apart from most technology companies. I love how the culture truly inspires us to put people first — customers and colleagues. It is like working with family every day!

Having worked for Philips twice, I’ve experienced so much in a short time frame which helped to shape the foundation of many of the skills I currently possess as an engineer and a team player. Philips was my first job right out of college, and it has provided some of the most rewarding learning and growth experiences in my career. I have been able to work on many technologies from embedded systems to the cloud and almost everything in between! I’ve also had the pleasure of working with some of the brightest minds in the industry through my team and cross functional interactions. I’ve also had the opportunity to work on some of the most innovative and beneficial products within the healthcare industry, which healthcare professionals use on a daily basis to save lives. One of the most notable is the Philips HeartStart MRx, which is a popular defibrillator/monitor, used in hospitals and ambulances to resuscitate and monitor patient vitals (Note: It has even showed up on hit TV show house for a few seasons!). Now, I am working on a very cool cloud project that will allow devices to send data to hospitals in real-time to streamline patient care from ambulances to hospitals. This project uses the latest and greatest of cloud and web technologies and will support some of Philips' most successful products, including the Philips HeartStart MRx.

Working for Phillips is truly rewarding and keeps me motivated to continue learn, grow, and contribute in my role as a Software Engineer with Philips. I think that what we offer is something very unique in the sense of the work that you do will really impact people’s lives on a day to day, that’s something you don’t come across all the time.
