The suction of my Philips Avent Breast pump is low.
The Philips Avent Electric Breast Pump offers a wide range of expression and simulation levels. If the suction does not feel right or comfortable for you please try a different setting.
If the suction is still too low after trying to increase the levels, there might be a simple way to fix this. Try our easy tips and tricks below.
Clean your Philips Avent breast pump
Make sure that the breast pump has been cleaned. Also, assembling the breast pump while it is still a bit moist from sterilizing can help to improve the vacuum.
Check if all parts are assembled properly
If not correctly assembled or if any of the parts is damaged, the breast pump can leak air, which reduces the suction power.
Insert the white valve into the pump body, so that it fits securely into the small round hole. Make sure the pointed side of the valve is facing down and it is not damaged.
Fit the clear silicone diaphragm into the pump body. Ensure a perfect seal around the rim by pressing down with your fingers. (You may find it easier to assemble if the diaphragm is wet.)
Make sure the detachable cushion is securely attached to the pump body. Make sure the inner part of the cushion is pressed all the way up to the line (indicated with an arrow). Secure the rim around the funnel making sure there are no gaps. (You may find it easier to assemble if the Cushion is wet.)
Check if the breast pump is positioned correctly.
The breast pump may also show low suction before expressing. Make sure that the pump is positioned correctly on the breast to allow a seal between breast pump and breast.
Use genuine Philips Avent parts
Do not mix parts of other breast pumps not belonging to the Philips Avent breast pump range.
