How do I change the length settings of my Philips Groomer?

    Published on 05 March 2024
Your Philips Groomer may come with different trimming combs and attachments. These products can also be used without any attachment to clip the hair very close to your skin (around 0.5mm). Find out here how to adjust the length settings when using these attachments.

    Click-on combs

If your groomer comes with multiple click-on combs, you can use these to get the desired hair length. The numbers on the combs indicate the length of the remaining hair after trimming. Simply click-on the appropriate comb onto the appliance and start grooming.

In case you have a device with adjustable cutting element, check the setting of the adjustable cutting element before attaching the comb, to make sure you are setting the right length setting.

    Adjustable comb

With adjustable combs, adjust the length setting by switching the lever from left to right (Image 1) or scrolling the wheel (Image 2).

Each number on the dial represents the remaining length of hair in millimeters after trimming your beard or hair.

    Zoom wheel

Some Philips Groomers use a zoom wheel to trim hair at a desired length. The zoom wheel can be found on the device’s body. Scroll the wheel to select the desired hair length you want to keep. The numbers indicate how much hair will remain in millimeters.

Some models have two rows of numbers located on the device's body. Use the top row as a guide to trim shorter lengths and the bottom to trim longer lengths. Ensure you attach the compatible comb for your desired length settings.

    Push & Slide

Your Philips Groomer may have a different kind of sliding button to adjust length settings. For these models, you may find the button on the handle of the device or on the comb itself. To change the settings just push the button and then slide it up or down.

    Adjusted or fixed combs

Some of our products, like the hairclippers series 5000 and 7000, come with 1 or 2 small fixed combs and a set of adjustable combs to cater to different trimming needs. Before you begin trimming, always check to see if the comb is adjustable or fixed.

You may refer to your user manual for detailed instructions or contact us.

    Trimming without a comb

The cutting element is the primary unit of your Philips Groomer. It has short, sharp edges to give you a fast and clean trim.

Use the trimmer without the trimming comb to trim hair close to the skin (to a length of approximately 0.5 mm) or contour your neckline or sideburns by holding it at a 90-degree angle to your skin.

When trimming without the comb attached, we advise that you:

    • Be careful with the edges of cutting teeth.
    • Note that the cutting unit will remove every hair it touches.
    • Move the groomer against the direction of hair growth with well-controlled movements and gentle pressure applied.
