1080p HDMI upconversion delivers images that are crystal clear. Movies in standard definition can now be enjoyed in true high definition resolution - ensuring more details and more true-to-life pictures. Progressive Scan (represented by "p" in "1080p') eliminates the line structure prevalent on TV screens, again ensuring relentlessly sharp images. To top it off, HDMI makes a direct digital connection that can carry uncompressed digital HD video as well as digital multichannal audio, without conversions to analog - delivering perfect picture and sound quality, completely free from noise.
Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture. Instead of sending a field comprising the odd lines to the screen first, followed by the field with the even lines, both fields are written at one time. A full image is created instantaneously, using the maximum resolution. At such a speed, your eye perceives a sharper picture with no line structure.
Philips DVD Recorders support ‘dual media’ recording – the ability to create recordings on DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW discs. Now you can buy any disc and your Philips recorder will always create fully compatible recordings, which can be played on any DVD player.

Great quality and outlasted 2 other DVD Recorders
This is the only piece of Philips equipment I have, but I am genuinely impressed. I bought my Philips DVDR -USED- about ten years ago for my original AV system. I set up a second system a few months later with a different, brand new DVDRec. The audio and video quality of both was excellent, though the Philips has more features and handles a broader number of formats. Both systems are used daily and roughly the same amount of time, except that I have recorded about 300 DVDs on the Philips and about 50 DVDs on the other system in about 10 years. Finally, my Philips DVDR is running along with ZERO problems - connectors, transport, buttons, display - all fine. My other system is almost ready for its -THIRD- brand new DVDRec., in 10 years! This time it will be a Philips. Their current model is a little bit out of my range, so if I can't swing that, I have no qualms about buying a used one. That should keep me set for the next ten years.

A Real Workhorse
This model is very rugged and long lasting. I have done hundreds of recordings over many years and it still does the job. I have had other models and brands that did not last long before a terminating problem arose. I have another unit to take over when this one does go. Maybe it's just this one unit that is so good. My only wish is that it would record dual-sided DVD's, but it wasn't designed to. Durability overrides this one missing feature.

this is a beautiful DVD recorder
I really like this, my only concern is the picture when I want to record something. for some reason the picture going thru the device is a little blurry and the writing on the screen is fuzzy.
