Philips Antenna rotator SDW1850 Programmable Remote controlled is rated
Rated 1 out of
poorly designed to withstand wind with large antenna
I recently installed this 1850 model rotor with a large Winegard HD-8200U antenna on my roof peak. I live in south central Oregon in a mountain area and normal low wind area. We had a snow storm come through (about 4-5 inches) and the antenna rotor stopped working. On closer inspection it was found that the rotor was free-wheeling and the antenna could be spun by hand. I suspect that the gear box has stripped from a windy day experience. This is not a heavy duty unit as advertised and I suspect lots of plastic inside the cast metal housing. When I contacted Phillips they offered to replace this unit one time in kind but could not help me with any kind of upgrade even if I were willing to pay more for something that might be a better design.
