How to fit into ONC’s new interoperability framework and regulation

This white paper offers an in-depth examination of the federal government’s plan to overhaul national interoperability. Based on regulatory power from 2016’s 21st Century Cures law, data blocking can bring fines of up to $1 million and other penalties.

The law also directs federal agencies to construct new rules for how clinical data is shared, governed and billed. The federal Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) has begun this rulemaking process.

In this white paper you will learn:

  • How ONC will define data blocking and its intentions for change
  • How CMS is aligning the overhaul into its quality programs
  • The rise of API exchange and shortcomings in the federal approach
  • Links to Philips comment letters to ONC and CMS
  • How the new exchange framework is being cast and how to fit in
  • Necessary next steps/timelines for health systems and providers to prepare
  • What parts are voluntary and what parts are not

Philips will continue to provide information throughout this rulemaking process, proposed as the federal government’s new Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA)
