The 24% drop in Medicare physician fees that would have occurred automatically under existing law has again been delayed.
On April 1, 2014, President Obama signed legislation that delays the sharp reduction through March 2015. The law also delays implementation of the ICD-10 codes for at least one more year.
The law includes separate provisions on CT radiation dose standards and appropriate use criteria that would go into effect in the future. Specifically:
- CT scanners must meet an industry standard (NEMA Standard XR-29) that reduces radiation dose while maintaining image quality;
- Medical providers must follow physician-developed appropriate use criteria when using advanced imaging services..
