Philips Healthcare recently offered the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services a range of policy recommendations as the agency finalizes its proposals for physician and hospital outpatient payment for calendar year 2017. CMS released its initial proposals in July and is expected to issue the final regulations in November.
- On physician payment, Philips offered recommendations on CMS proposals to: expand use of telehealth and diabetes prevention; reduce the impact of the multiple procedure payment reductions; maintain current payment rates for digital mammography; and make payment and coding changes to reward primary care services. - On hospital outpatient department payment, Philips offered recommendations on the CMS proposals to: restructure Ambulatory Payment Classifications (APCs) for imaging; impose site-neutral payment rules on certain off-campus physician practices acquired by hospital outpatient departments; and require providers who order advanced diagnostic imaging services to consult appropriate use criteria.
