Unlike other ATLAS sites that serve Veterans in rural areas, the telehealth exam room in the American Legion Post 176 in Springfield, Virgina is located within the Washington, DC metro area, which has its own set of challenges facing Veterans seeking care.

Telehealth for Veterans in Springfield

At-a-glance:

  • [0:07] – Leveraging virtual care to increase convenience and accessibility for Veterans
  • [0:40] – Increasing satisfaction through care centered around Veterans’ needs
  • [1:22] – The power of public, private industry collaboration to transform Veteran healthcare

I was actually floored to see the strides VA is making, basically for me. I can speak to a provider in a safe, confidential environment and actually focus on my mental and physical well-being. At the end of the day, this is crucial. It’s saving lives, one Veteran at a time, including mine.

The launch of the ATLAS telehealth exam room in American Legion Post 176 in Springfield, Virgina is providing Veterans in the community an accessible space to speak one-on-one with their VA healthcare provider. Unlike other ATLAS sites that serve Veterans in rural areas, Springfield is located within the Washington, DC metro area, which has its own set of challenges facing Veterans seeking care.

“Traffic can often be a barrier to seeking care,” said Michael Heimall, Director, Washington, DC VA Medical Center. “When you also factor in COVID-19 and the recent pandemic, we’ve had to rely even more on virtual care to meet Veterans’ needs.”

“We are primarly about helping Veterans to have and live a better life, and ATLAS will cut hours of time and frustration in commute time to get to the VA to get medical care,” said Dennis Madtes, U.S. Army Veteran and American Legion Post 176 Commander.
