Before I interviewed with Philips I knew nothing about the company. I thought Philips was just that company that made TVs. After doing some research and gaining a better understanding of their vision for healthcare I quickly realized that I could do something more important with my career by joining an organization that wants to make a meaningful difference to people’s lives. I’ve been here over a year now and my team is responsible for automating the integration of the systems on the eCareCoordinator platform, which is an outpatient solution that allows nurses and doctors to monitor patients remotely while the patient is in their home.

A personal story

My grandmother was a very independent person and she lived alone up until she started to become ill and had to become home hospice. As a family we didn't notice that she was falling ill because she was living on her own. I thought it would be really cool to join a company where I could work on something like eCareCoordinator that could potentially help people like my grandmother. My hope is that the eCareCoordinator Platform and other solutions like it become more widespread, so when my parents are older they could ideally have a nurse monitor them from their home instead of having to stay in a care facility or hospital.

Healthcare is Evolving

The Healthcare industry is constantly evolving and expanding and it feels rewarding to help develop cutting edge healthcare technology. It’s also really important to me to stay on top of new technologies so my skillset doesn’t become outdated. At Philips there are plenty of opportunities for me to hone my current skillset while still giving me the option to learn new languages and skills that will make me a stronger software developer in the future.

In My Spare Time

I am also now using what I learn here to develop an app in my spare time. I’m a gym rat and go 2-3 times per day so I like to log my workouts and track progress. Right now I am working on a dashboard to track personal fitness. That’s just another thing that’s so cool about working here as I take everything I learn and apply it to other parts of my life. Not everyone working as a Software Engineer can say that.
