The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has partnered with seven external organizations to develop and improve health outcomes measures used in its Quality Payment Program (QPP). The QPP adjusts payments annually for many physicians based on how well they perform on a range of quality metrics. The intent of the public-private partnerships is to fill gaps in the measures used in the program.
One of the awardees, the University of California, San Francisco, will develop a measure on composite radiation dose and quality. Other proposed measures include complication rates following hip and knee replacements to be developed by the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and improvement or maintenance of mental health to be developed by the American Psychiatric Association.
