Philips Recommendations on 2018 Medicare Payment for Physicians, Outpatient Departments

Philips Healthcare has made a range of policy recommendations to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as the agency finalizes its proposals for physician and hospital outpatient payment for calendar year 2018. CMS released its initial proposals in July and is expected to issue the final regulations in November.

On physician payment, Philips offered recommendations on CMS proposals to: reduce payments provided in new hospital outreach clinics; implement payment changes affecting a number of diagnostic imaging services; expand coverage of telehealth services; implement the new Diabetes Prevention Program; and explore ways to modernize and expand coverage of telehealth services and encourage remote patient monitoring.

On hospital outpatient department payment, Philips offered recommendations on CMS proposals to reduce payment for: diagnostic imaging Ambulatory Payment Classifications (APCs); drug-coated balloon interventional cardiology procedures and related imaging guidance; new hospital outreach clinics; and cancer hospitals, academic medical centers, and other hospitals serving a disproportionate share of uninsured or underinsured patients.
