Andover, MA – Philips today announced that it was presented with the 2014 “Champion for Change” Award by Practice Greenhealth. Practice Greenhealth is the nation’s leading health care community that empowers its members to increase their efficiencies and environmental stewardship while improving patient safety and care through tools, best practices and knowledge.
The Champion for Change Award honors businesses that supply the health care sector who have not only taken steps to improve their organization’s green practices, but have also gone the extra mile to help their clients and associates expand their sustainable practices as well. In multiple “Green Healthcare” projects in the U.S. and around the globe, Philips has enabled hospitals to realize electricity savings in excess of 50% in lighting and medical equipment and help free-up significant resources for improving the healthcare environments for patients and staff.
“Philips award application scored in the top tier of winners, and was very impressive for a first-time applicant,” said Lara Sutherland, Director of Business Membership from Practice Greenhealth. “The depth of their commitment to sustainability and to supporting their healthcare customers in reducing their energy consumption for imaging systems such as MRI and across the hospital with LED Lighting solutions, is clearly evident.”
"The Champion for Change award is evidence of Philips dedication to building a sustainable future through our investment in the development of green technologies and our active role in reducing the ecological footprint of our operations and supply chain," said Brent Shafer, CEO Philips North America. “The award further exemplifies Philips commitment to developing meaningful innovations to improve people’s health & well-being.”
The Champion for Change Award is reserved for organizational partners supplying healthcare products and services that are considerate of the earth and its resources. The winners of this award have achieved success in greening their own organization and have also assisted others who are committed to improving their environmental performance.
Philips received the award at the annual CleanMed Conference & Exposition, the premier environmental conference for leaders in healthcare sustainability, last night in Cleveland, Ohio.
