Philips expands cloud-based imaging with IntelliSpace Radiology on AWS, including remote reading and AI capabilities to enhance patient care

Advanced cloud and AI capabilities enable clinicians to securely work remotely and enhance data interpretation

Jun 27, 2024 | 2 minute read

Amsterdam, the Netherlands – Royal Philips, a global leader in health technology, today announced the option for existing IntelliSpace Radiology [1] customers in North America to move to the cloud on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Available in late 2024, IntelliSpace Radiology as a managed service in the cloud will provide remote access for reliable and secure diagnostic reading for clinicians and provide the option to incorporate AI capabilities directly into clinical workflows to help improve productivity. Alongside IntelliSpace Radiology in the cloud, Philips will continue to provide service and support for current IntelliSpace Radiology on-premise customers.

High-speed remote access for diagnostic reading helps clinicians to spend more time on patient care instead of navigating technology and datacenter operations, improving their operational efficiency and enhancing patient care. With the availability of managed services in the cloud, health systems can adopt new capabilities faster, reduce on-premise hardware and IT management costs, and improve the security of their networks.

Expanding AI capabilities and Enterprise Imaging

Additionally, to simplify the integration of AI into clinical workflows, Philips AI Manager, a cloud-based AI-enabled clinical applications platform, will now be offered with IntelliSpace Radiology. With AI Manager, radiologists can leverage more than 130 AI applications directly into their clinical workflow. AI Manager offers comprehensive assessments and clinical insights, helping to address high-volume workloads to analyze routine and complex cases. By offering access to AI applications within IntelliSpace Radiology, routine work can be addressed more efficiently and clinicians receive advanced diagnostic support on complex cases, thereby helping to support better patient care.

Philips HealthSuite Imaging, the next generation cloud-based PACS, will also be available for health systems currently using IntelliSpace Radiology, as an extension of their managed services offerings. With enterprise capabilities such as vendor neutral archive and Enterprise viewer, clinicians can store, access and share clinical data more easily.

We are committed to working with health systems to help transition radiology departments to the cloud in the most effective way, focusing on their needs, all under the same managed service framework, regardless of the product line that they have.

- Madhuri Sebastian, Business Leader Radiology Informatics at Philips

“As one of the largest healthcare informatics companies, we are committed to supporting our customers to benefit from the latest advances in AI, while offering flexibility in adopting cloud-based solutions,” said Madhuri Sebastian, Business Leader Radiology Informatics at Philips. “We are committed to working with health systems to help transition radiology departments to the cloud in the most effective way, focusing on their needs, all under the same managed service framework, regardless of the product line that they have.”

The expansion of the collaboration with AWS, adding IntelliSpace Radiology as a cloud offering, along with HealthSuite Imaging and Digital Pathology, highlights Philips’ vision of a cloud-forward future for enterprise imaging, addressing the ongoing medical imaging staffing crisis and helping to improve the advancement of data-driven healthcare.
