NEW YORK, NY – Philips joins non-profit organization, Nurses With Global Impact, to support the work of nurses everywhere during the third annual celebration of International Nurses Day at the United Nations (UN). As part of the ceremony recognizing 21 nurses from around the world impacting lives with quality care and serving as role models for future generations, Philips honors two nurses:
“Nurses are a powerful force when it comes to improving global healthcare, and Philips is proud to celebrate our shared commitment to improving lives during this important event,” said Peg Campbell, head of Philips Corporate Social Responsibility, North America. “By supporting patients and families during their most critical moments, these nurses, and nurses everywhere have tremendous influence for how we provide quality care now and in the future.” International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world annually on May 12, the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, honoring the remarkable contributions nurses make to society. The U.S. extends the celebration to National Nursing Week each year from May 6 to May 12.
Much has changed since Florence Nightingale’s time, but the gifts nurses give to us all – the compassion, selfless care, and empathy – stand strong as the hallmark of this noble and critical profession. The growing participation and recognition of this event continues to exceed my expectations and demonstrates the love and admiration held for nurses everywhere.
