Addressing the Impacts of Sex and Gender on Respiratory Care

Nicolas Roche

Prof. Nicholas Roche
Professor of Respiratory Medicine
Paris Descartes University

Chronic lung disease currently accounts for a large percentage of deaths in both males and females. This podcast challenges stereotypes and provides insights into the differences in respiratory care between sexes.

Roche gives an overview on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), describing the leading causes and burden of this condition, and addressing gender differences and the perception that this is a predominantly male disease. Physical, social, and lifestyle differences are all considered in relation to common lung diseases such as asthma and bronchiectasis.
