4x video upsampling for improved image quality

Video Upsampling is a technology that decreases distortion to dramatically improve picture quality. Increasing the video processing to 54MHz or even 108MHz, is in effect converting the video to 8:8:8* (54MHz) or 16:16:16 (108MHz) format which has about 4 to 8 time more horizontal resolution bandwidth than in standard DVD format. This processing reduces the MPEG "mosquito net" distortion dramatically resulting in picture quality that is pure and distortion free.

192kHz/24 bit audio DAC enhances analogue sound input

192kHz/24 bit audio DAC enhances analogue sound input

192KHz sampling enables you to have an accurate representation of the original sound curves. Together with a 24-bit resolution, more information is captured from the original analogue sound wave form, giving a much richer audio reproduction.

Progressive Scan component video for optimized image quality

Progressive Scan component video for optimized image quality

Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture. Instead of sending a field comprising the odd lines to the screen first, followed by the field with the even lines, both fields are written at one time. A full image is created instantaneously, using the maximum resolution. At such a speed, your eye perceives a sharper picture with no line structure.

Older version is Great. Newer version is horrible!

I have used the DVP642 for years. I have 2 older versions and 1 newer version. Researching issues with this player I found out there are actually two very different versions using different internal motherboard chips. The older versions (manufactured before Sep 2006) are great and played everything I gave it, DVD, DVD-r,DVD+r, DVDRW, Divx(Home Theater), Xvid. The newer version (manufacture date September 2006) are a waste. There are numerous complaints with the units and so far I have not found any way to change the firmware of the new unit. With the older units you could update, and or downgrade the firmware but not the newer units. Unlike with the older units, with these newer manufacture date units, there is no way to get to the 'hidden screen' which tells you the version of the firmware on the newer unit. Firmware is not available from the manufactures website anymore for whatever reason and updated firmware is a must for these players. I don't believe there has ever been an updated firmware for the DVP642 manufactured Sep 2006, at least I have not been able to find one. Bottom line, if you can find a DVP642 manufactured "before" Sep 2006 then I highly recommend it but stay away from the ones manufactured Sep 2006. Hopefully, someday soon, we will have updated firmware.
