Electronics reuse & recycling

If you have a product that you need to dispose of, we encourage you to do so in an environmentally friendly manner. Some older products can still be put to good use. What is old to you could be a welcome opportunity to another! Many charities, community programs and schools are in need of used electronic equipment. Consider donating or selling your used electronics to others before recycling them. Check to see if these groups accept working and/or non-working products. If your product is not working, find out if it can it be repaired to extend its life. If the answer is no, then proper recycling is your next best alternative.

Check with your local or state organizations on the proper disposal methods or disposal restrictions in your area. Many states already have comprehensive programs for handling electronic waste that may be a convenient option for you. The correct disposal of your old product will help prevent potential negative consequences for our environment and human health. Do not dispose of your old products with your normal household waste. Consider options for Reuse of the product before recycling or disposal.

When you purchase a new television, laptop computer, portable DVD player or computer monitor, you wil pay a recycling fee of depending on screen size. This fee is used to keep harmful materials from millions of discarded electronic devices from ending up in landfills by recycling these products. How to Recycle Electronic Devices in New Jersey

Philips partners with MRM to collect all covered electronic devices (CEDs) in New Jersey at the end of their useful life.

Under the New Jersey Electronic Waste Management Act, the cost to recycle covered electronic devices (CEDs) shall not be passed on to consumers. To find a convenient location nearest to you, please visit www.mrmrecycling.com to find recycling locations, hours, and any limitations on collections. 

“Consumer” means a person, small business enterprise, State entity, school district, or local government unit that purchases a covered electronic device in a retail sale. Consumer does not include any business concern that purchases a covered electronic device.

“Covered electronic device” or “CED” means a desktop or personal computer, computer monitor, portable computer, desktop printer, desktop fax machine, or television sold to a consumer. A covered electronic device does not include any of the following: 1. An electronic device that is a part of a motor vehicle or any component part of a motor vehicle assembled by, or for, a vehicle manufacturer or franchised dealer, including a replacement part for use in a motor vehicle; 2. An electronic device that is functionally or physically a part of a larger piece of equipment designed and intended for use in an industrial, commercial, or medical setting, including diagnostic, monitoring, or control equipment; 3. An electronic device that is contained within a clothes washer, clothes dryer, refrigerator, refrigerator and freezer, microwave oven, conventional oven or range, dishwasher, room air conditioner, dehumidifier, or air purifier; or 4. A handheld device used to access commercial mobile data service or commercial mobile radio service, as such services are defined at 47 CFR 20.3.

New Jersey consumers who are not able to bring a CED to a collection site, or those with bulky CEDs, are eligible for free pickup services. Again, please reach out to MRM for more information. www.mrmrecycling.com

Rechargeable Batteries

Philips is a licensee of Call2Recycle for rechargeable batteries that are easily removable from Philips products. You can drop off a used rechargeable battery removed from a Philips consumer product at a Call2Recycle drop-off location. To find the rechargeable battery drop-off location nearest to you, please go to the Call2Recycle website at http://www.call2recycle.org/.
