Nice monitor with flaw/bad customer service

I want to start by saying the monitor looks amazing and the price is pretty great considering what you get. I really wanted to upgrade to OLED after getting a new GPU for my PC. I was very excited to get this fairly, highly reviewed monitor for a decent price. That excitement turned to frustration pretty quickly however, when a small but integral part broke immediately, as well as some odd operational behavior, and pretty poor customer service. I do want to add, before I get into it, the biggest complaint people seem to have is the pixel refresh notifications. You can 100% turn that off! If your monitor doesn't have the option out of the box, all you need to do is update the firmware through a downloadable app, via the included USB cable (which also allows you to plug devices directly into the monitor for charging). So, I think a lot of the complaints are a bit silly. My negative experience has been a bit different making it hard for me to give this one 4-5 stars. I feel like a 4 star review may be closer to how I am feeling currently (now that I have a working replacement). But, the headache I had to deal with to get here makes it impossible to give a 5 star review, and I feel like Philips is unlikely to look at a 4 star even. I am hoping to draw attention to the issues I have had with my purchase in the hope that they will do better in the future. Before I even turned the monitor on, I had to send an email to Philips support, because I had a small, but integral part break on me right out of the box. When installing the stand bracket on the back of the monitor, there is a small plastic retention clip that keeps it from sliding off. Not something you would notice during regular use. But if you tilted it forward to get to a cable, there is a chance the monitor could slip off the stand, fall on the desk, and damage the screen. Even worse if you had it on a vesa mounted arm, where you are likely to move it around a bit more often, the chance of this thing falling and breaking grows. It took nearly 2 weeks to reply to my support email. The first response was simply asking me to provide all of the information from the online form. I had, in fact, included that in my first email, but replied again with it, as well as reiterating that I was simply looking for a very small and easy to replace part that broke. A week later, he replied and told me they were unlikely to be able to send me that part, and that I would likely have to return the monitor to the retailer for an exchange. I asked again if they could double check on a replacement part, explaining that dealing with Amazon would be a huge headache, but never got a reply. I guess I can either suck it up and hope the monitor doesn't fall off the stand (damaging the screen) or deal with an Amazon return.. Unfortunately, Amazon will not let you simply exchange a defective product.Rather, you have to return for a refund, then repurchase. The price of this monitor had gone up by $85, and I didn't feel it was fair that I have to spend another $100 out of pocket, simply because I was trying to deal with a defective product replacement. Fortunately, after spending about 20-40 min trying to get a human on he phone, they offered a credit for the difference in cost, so I could purchase another without eating the cost increase. Unfortunately, it would still take 2-4 weeks to get my refund from Amazon. I wound up purchasing a new one on a 0%APR payment plan, which let me go ahead and get a replacement shipped right away, while I wouldn't be responsible for making payments until the refund was processed. Some folks may not think of this, and be stuck waiting weeks before they can apply the refund to purchasing a replacement. Its a pretty cruddy way to deal with getting a replacement for a faulty product, but it worked. Just wish Philips could have helped facilitate a replacement via amazon without having to jump through hoops and making phone calls.. I also confirmed, once I got a replacement monitor, that my first one had another defect that I wasn't sure of at first. This one would completely lose signal if I turned the power off on my second monitor, and then my PC would make the device disconnected/reconnected sound for about 30-40 seconds. This sound could reoccur intermittently if I was watching a movie or something on my 3rd screen (I have a 4k tv hooked up for watching movies/tv). This was a bit annoying, but I could work around it by disabling monitors instead through the windows display settings. I thought, perhaps, it had something to do with the pixel refresh feature, and perhaps normal (yet annoying). The replacement monitor does not do this however. So, I am glad I sent back the first one, even if I thought I could find a DIY fix for the retention clip. I clearly had a malfunctioning monitor that could have gotten worse. I will say, I don't think the defects with my monitor are common. I could not find a single other person talking about the signal loss thing I was dealing with. And while I have seen at least one other person complaining about the retention clip breaking, it seems to be somewhat rare. Most likely, as long as you don't have to remove the bracket on the back of the monitor, you perhaps it won't break. But people should be aware this is a possibility, and be careful when interacting with it. But also, seeing as how this part seems to be extremely fragile, yet extremely easy for even the least tech savvy person to replace, they should have replacement parts on hand if customers have one break. I would recommend they make a metal version, or something sturdier than the brittle plastic, to send customers so they can replace this part themselves before they get stuck in a predicament where this thing is broken and could cause greater harm. Really, I think the biggest issue people are likely to have with buying this monitor, is dealing with Philips' customer service. It's pretty bad. But, if you are willing to deal with that potential headache, this monitor is extremely nice looking, and feels otherwise sturdy and built fairly well.

Pros

Great picture for the price. Nice features. Monitor itself feels built well..

Cons

Cheap platic retention clip for monitor stand broke during installation. Issues where monitor would lose signal when turning off second display. Customer service slow to respond and not helpful.
