Blu-ray Disc/ DVD player

Longtime owner of the BDP2285 here that just dropped by for the latest firmware update (1.53) and felt there was time for me to pitch in on this solid device. I bought the BDP2285 Bluray Disc/DVD player along with an HD LCD TV a few years back and am very happy with the support that Philips has provided for the player as well as how long the player has lasted. Especially how much the player has contributed to me getting extra mileage out of my HD TV (which only supports 1080i) by allowing me to still enjoy watching HD content on it (i.e. via Netflix), albeit via Ethernet instead of wi-fi. There have been minor issues in regards to the update procedure over the years, but I've always been able to update via the USB. I give it 4/5 (performance) because of the occasional wi-fi buffering when playing HD content that I feel was an issue even on the day that I bought it, but that I fixed by using the Ethernet connection instead. I give it 5/5 (ease of use) because I found it very intuitive to use with a very straight forward UI. I give it 4/5 (design) because it is a bit large and lacks some software that would have made it much more usable (i.e. internet browser and DLNA/media center support).

This really has turned out to be a great Blue ray player and other disk's as well and I love the design and shape.

easy to setup and user friendly. no glitches with streaming so far, quick load of blurays. does much better than a more known,more expensive brand that I previously owned.

Considering that this product boast the ability to stream from the internet, it's extremely sad that while I can stream from Youtube, I can't even stream from my own PC even though they are on the same network. The Player "Locks" us into using only the pay sources in streaming. It does have a USB port to play movies from, but that gets to be monotonous to have to do so every time you want to watch something off your PC. This could be a very good BD/DVD Player However, Philips seems to have had poor planning concerning the features.

I bought this player a few months back to replace an older Blue Ray disk player. At first it worked fine but, I did one update to the software and ever since when I am playing a DVD or blue ray disk, the screen goes black on my TV and a screeching sounds comes out of my audio component. It's frustrating as my audio component is also a philips and, I have had no issues at all with it. Apparently, when they designed this one, they didn't do a good job. I now have to replace yet another blue ray player and, I would not recommend this player to any of my friends because of my experience on top of it not being supported any longer.

This is a good Blue ray/DVD player with built in wifi, but Philips no longer supports Amazon streaming video.

Dont buy this product, is obsolet, there is no update on the software.

it worked for less than a year, and then Netflix will not play. It is a software/update issue.

Remote is hard to use. YouTube doesn't connect, I get a Google error screen. Remote keys for alpha doesn't work. Software updates are non-existent. Philips products had deteriorated and support is non-existent.

I've had this product for a YEAR and conveniently it's out of Warranty and it won't turn on anymore!! Will never buy this brand again!! So sad bc it was the best but now it's garbage
