The Philips player is compatible with most DVD discs available in the market. DVD, DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW and (S)VCD discs - all of them can play on the player. DVD+/-R is a shorthand term for a DVD drive that can accept both of the common recordable DVD formats. Likewise, DVD+/-RW handles both common rewritable disc types. SVCD stands for "Super VideoCD". The quality of a SVCD is much better than a VCD, especially much more sharpen picture than a VCD because of the higher resolution.

Nice unit but battery life is short
We bought this for our son to use on long trips or around the house to watch his movies. It works well and the remote is a handy and smart addition. Our complaint is that the battery life is short especially for a newer unit/technology like this is. 2 hours is iffy and then you have to charge it but cannot watch movies while it charges. That's a downer.

Cannot change batter, no spec sheet, Philips doesn't manufacture this any longer
Well, I have 2 of these DVD units Model: PET702/37, yes there is a user manual--no there is no a spec sheet. Philips no longer manufactures this item and are at a complete loss to provide ANY information about the battery type or milliamps (items needed for an electronics repair desk) to open the back, get the battery and solder it in. Not good, so what I really have here are two "throw away" DVD players as the battery is incapable of charging. I've phoned Philips repeatedly, same story: no there is no spec sheet, no they don't know the milliamps, no they don't repair, just no, no and more of no. But wait!!!! Now they will contact one of the engineers in Holland and pose the question to him/her. Ihae to wait about 2 weeks for the answer. Every effort is being used to beat me down but thus far I'm in hot pursuit of the milliamps question. Anyone know????
