My Philips Barista Brew Espresso Machine does not froth milk

    Published on 17 July 2024
If your Philips Barista Brew Espresso Machine is not frothing milk, read our article below for possible causes and solutions.

We recommend always using cold refrigerated milk to ensure great milk foam. If the milk temperature is high, it can affect the frothing quality.

To produce a great milk froth, make sure the jug is filled with the right amount of milk. We recommend you fill a quarter of the jug (100 ml) with milk for a cappuccino and about a third of the jug (150 ml) for a latte macchiato.

Various types of milk can result in different amounts of foam and quality. We recommend you use one of the following milk types:
    • Semi-skimmed cow's milk
    • Full-fat cow’s milk
    • Lactose-free milk
To create a good milk froth, you need to position the milk jug the right way. Make sure the end of the hot water/steam wand is 3cm below the surface of the milk and that the jug is tilted (see image below).

If you are using the hot water/steam wand for a while, the steam function will stop, and the heater needs to cool down. Please return the hot water/steam knob, back to the middle position, wait for a while, and place the knob in the steam position again.

Cleaning the milk system and its related parts after every use and thoroughly will ensure a good quality milk froth. For that, you can find a detailed step-by-step guide in the User Manual.

Note: Always make sure you prevent milk from drying up in the milk circuit system, as it may be hard to remove. When the steam wand gets clogged, use the thick end of the cleaning pin tool, which you can use to clean the hole at the end of the hot water/steam wand.

As the machine circuit can become blocked by limescale, we recommend you descale the machine regularly, and always when the DESCALE LIGHT indication lights up.

Please follow the detailed instructions which you can find in the User Manual.
