My Philips TV does not respond to the remote control and the letter F is displayed in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Your TV is in the Factory mode.
Press the Vol- and Ch- buttons on the sets keyboard (side buttons) together for 5 seconds.
This will restore your TV to normal operation.
