Parent’s Path Art Collection by Philips Avent

Created in partnership with artists and mothers, this series of original artwork demonstrates the paradox that parenthood presents: immeasurable joy marked by undeniable uncertainty, excitement and exhaustion.

Parenting is a unique journey. Each path is marked by varying milestones, celebrations, off-road adventures, and detours that make the first year feel like a rollercoaster.

Despite these shared experiences it can feel like a lonely road for new parents. The plain truth is we are all learning. No one is prepared for parenthood on day one and few of us realize intuitively that we can create or find support that works best for us.

While it can feel overwhelming at first, this is all part of embarking on the biggest adventure of all with baby.

Philips Avent offers support without judgment and a portfolio of adaptable products that meet baby's developing needs. No two experiences are the same, and Philips Avent is committed to supporting all parents as they navigate the path ahead.

We collaborated with artists to share their personal motherhood experiences and bring to life the complexities and the joys of being a parent. This collection highlights the reality and essential practices of self-expression, self-care, seeking and accepting support from family and friends, knowing parents can feel left out of the picture when prioritizing baby.

Through such artwork, we hope you relate to and find comfort in the unpredictability of your own personal journey, knowing there are tools and support to help you along the way.

"My commitment to and passion for making this work emerged from the birth of my first child just three months before starting my MFA program.

I found myself in the throes of the fourth trimester while being a new mother, a new student, and making new artwork. The experience of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood changed me: feeling empowered in a new way, wanting to scream from the rooftops, 'Look what I did!' Against the dismissive attitudes toward mothering as a subject within contemporary art, I began to explore these experiences in my practice.

At the time, the immediate and overwhelming reaction to the subject of my work was a resounding 'NO.' While the criticism and lack of support felt shocking, it wasn’t surprising. Yet we’ve all been born, it is an experience applicable to each and every one of us.

Through my practice and work with Philips Avent, I not only recognize, but honor this shared human experience, using motherhood as a motivation for creating art. These are my monuments to motherhood."

"Drawing from my direct experience as a mother to two young children, 'Presenting Her' is inspired by the hands in my family’s everyday photographs.

This image is part of a series of works that use snapshots from my family’s daily life as a map to evaluate the space of caregiving. In this series, I removed the hands in our family photos from their original backgrounds and contexts to focus on their gesticulation and expression alone. The gestures represented within this series honor all the moments within early motherhood, both joyous and tenuous.

The range of emotions experienced within those early moments is vast, and I am thrilled to be partnering with Philips Avent in their mission to highlight the full scope of the motherhood journey."

"The paintings 'Blooming Parents with Sunflowers' and 'In Space, While Parenting' took inspiration from my journey of nurturing my children while facing the hidden challenges of neurodivergence—a general term used to describe those with a variation in mental functions, such as Autism, ADHD, ADD, etc.

My artistic expression aims to celebrate Black maternal health by highlighting authentic, inclusive experiences. I, too, am on a journey to better understand my parenting path and I appreciate the brand’s mission to provide solutions and support for all parenting paths without judgment."

"When I became pregnant in 2021, I used my social feed to document the details of the strangeness, difficulty, and sweetness of my journey through pregnancy.

The drawings I made for Philips Avent are a continuation of this wave of inspiration, derived from my recent experiences and feelings—still very close to the surface—as the mother of a new baby boy. They capture the wonder, worry, repetitiveness, and profound joy of new parenthood—the loss of self, the finding of a more profound version of self, and the overwhelming love one feels for one’s child, even while taking care of the endless number of small things a baby needs."
