Put the finishing touches to your haircut

Knowing how to finish off a haircut can be tricky, especially when you’re not used to having your hair cut at home. That’s why we’ve partnered with a professional barber to bring you some straightforward tricks and tips to tackle common problem areas.

    • Follow the contours: when trimming around your ears, move the trimmer in backward strokes along the sides of your head, and follow the natural curve provided by the top of your ear. This will reduce the amount of precision trimming you’ll need to do to remove tufts of hair around your ears.
    • A straight curve: you want the hairline in the back of your neck to appear at least partially straight, but it isn’t always obvious how to accomplish this when your neck naturally curves. Watch the video to find out how the professionals achieve a sharp, clean finish.

Bonus tip: be sure to thoroughly comb your hair on the top, back and sides before cutting it. Even if it looks tidy on the surface, you have thousands of individual hairs on your head, and ensuring that those hairs are straight and aligned is the best way to make sure that they’re cut to the same length. Spending some time combing beforehand can help to minimize the number of passes you make with the clipper and give your haircut a tidy finish.
