    Natural Response Nipple

    Philips Avent Natural Response Nipple

Our Natural Response Nipple is truly revolutionary! Most baby bottle nipples are free flowing; once milk starts coming out, it will constantly flow. This nipple allows the milk flow to stop and start again just like how babies feed when at the breast. Turn the bottle upside down and you'll see we designed it not to drip!

    Finding the right
    flow rate

Our Natural Response Nipple lets your baby use their natural drinking rhythm. When choosing a flow, watch your little one's feeding cues and drinking rhythm. Start with the nipple that comes with the bottle. The flow of milk from the nipple is linked to how enthusiastically or steadily they drink as they develop, regardless of age.

    Finding the right flow rate

    Should I change the flows?

    Feeding cues lead
    the way!

Enthusiastic feeders use strong suction and compression and will be more comfortable with a lower nipple flow like 1 and 2.

Slow and steady drinkers are likely to prefer a higher nipple flow (such as 4 or 5), to ensure they are getting enough milk during every feed.

Does your baby seem frustrated or fall asleep during feeds? Is your baby playing with the nipple instead of drinking? If so, try a higher flow.

    High flow image

Do you see milk leaking from your baby's mouth? Is your baby gulping the milk down? If so, try a lower flow.

A little effort goes a long way

The Natural Response Nipple is different because it works like the breast, the flow is controlled by baby. Milk flow stops and starts based on your baby's drinking rhythm.

For some babies it can take a few tries to get used to a nipple that doesn't always free-flow. If you have tried the same nipple a few times with little or no success, it may mean your baby needs a different nipple flow.

Babies that have tried traditional baby bottle nipples, where the milk flows without pausing, might need a higher nipple flow with the Natural Response Nipple.

    The “breast-feeder”

Mimics how the breast naturally works

When babies are breastfeeding, they use a suckling movement to drink breast milk in tiny, separate portions. The milk flow will pause when a baby pauses to swallow and breathe.

We designed the Natural Response Nipple to mimic what happens when babies breastfeed– the milk flow will pause when a baby pauses to swallow and breathe.

Just like when you start breastfeeding, it takes patience to get things right, your baby will need to find their rhythm when drinking from a bottle. Once your baby gets the hang of it, they'll love drinking with their natural rhythm from both the breast and the Natural Response Nipple.
