How to descale my Saeco Intuita espresso machine

    Published on 2021-07-04

Descaling your Saeco Intuita espresso machine helps keeping it in optimal condition. Discover how to easily do this yourself.

Before you start the descaling cycle

    • The complete descaling takes about 30 minutes and consists of a descaling cycle and rinsing cycles
    • Once started you need to complete the descale procedure till the very end
    • Use Saeco/Philips descaling solution CA7600 or CA6701, never use vinegar as a decalcifier

    Before you start:

    • Empty the drip tray
    • Have a container available to collect the water during the descaling process
    • Remove the INTENZA+ water filter from the water tank (if placed)
    • Remove the Pannarello / Cappuccinatore / Automatic milk frother (if placed)

Descale instructions - descale cycle steps 1-5

    1) Empty the water tank and pour the entire bottle of Saeco descaling solution in it. Fill the water tank up with fresh water to the MAX level and put it back into the machine
    2) Place the container under the steam/hot water wand and the dispensing spout
    3) Press and hold the CALC CLEAN button for about 3 seconds. When the CACL CLEAN button starts flashing, release it to start the descaling cycle. Note: The CACL CLEAN button flashes during the whole descaling cycle. As long as this button flashes, the descaling procedure is active and not finished
    4) The machine starts dispensing the descaling solution at regular intervals. This takes about 15 minutes. It dispenses alternately through:

    • The steam wand. When it does the HOT WATER button shines steadily
    • The dispensing spout. When it does the ESPRESSO button shines steadily

    5) When the descaling cycle is finished, the NO WATER light turns on and the Hot water button starts flashing. The CACL CLEAN button continues to flash

    6) Empty the drip tray and the large container
    7) Rinse the water tank, fill it up to the MAX level with fresh water and place it back into the machine. The NO WATER light turns off
    8) Place back the large container under the steam/hot water wand and the dispensing spout
    9) Press the flashing HOT WATER button to perform the first rinsing cycle. The machine dispenses the water through the steam wand until the water tank is empty. This takes about 3-5 minutes
    10) When the first rinsing cycle is completed, the NO WATER light turns off and the HOT WATER button starts flashing. The CALC CLEAN button continues to flash

Descale instructions - rinsing cycle steps 11-15

    11) Empty the drip tray and the large container
    12) Rinse the water tank, fill it up to the MAX level with fresh water and place it back into the machine. The NO WATER light turns off
    13) Place back the large container under the steam/hot water wand and the dispensing spout
    14) Press the flashing HOT WATER button to perform the second rinsing cycle. For a few seconds, the machine first dispenses some water through the dispensing spout. It then dispenses the rest through the steam wand until the water tank is empty. This takes about 3-5 minutes
    15) At the end of the second rinsing cycle, the CALC CLEAN button turns off and only the NO WATER light stays on; the descaling process has been completed
Important: If the water tank is not filled up to the MAX level before the rinsing cycles, the “CALC CLEAN” button keeps on flashing after the second rinsing cycle. Then you need to perform another rinsing cycle. Repeat steps 12 to 15 until the CALC CLEAN light turns off.
