How do I set up my Philips SmartSleep Deep Sleep Headband?

    Published on 2021-09-20
If you are wondering how to set up your headband, please follow the steps below to help assist you.
    1. Download the SleepMapper app from the App Store or Google Play.
    2. Turn on the headband by pressing the power button for 1 second.
    3. Follow the in-app instruction to pair the headband with your phone via Bluetooth.

How do I turn my Philips SmartSleep Deep Sleep Headband on or off?

To turn the headband on, press the power button on the headband for 1 second and then release. To turn the headband off, press the power button for 3 seconds and then release.

How do I know if I put the headband on correctly?

Position yourself in front of a mirror to ensure the headband is centered (the power button should align with your nose), and the forehead sensor band goes across your forehead above your eyebrows (not touching hairline either). Clear any hair underneath the forehead sensor. Pull the strap down to the neck to ensure a stable fit. If your skin tends to be dry (especially during winter), add a dab of water on each of the forehead sensor to help them connect. You will hear a ‘happy sound’ when the headband is ready for use. You can also check the signal strength in the MyDevice tab of the SleepMapper app to ensure the headband is connected.

After I turn the headband on, the green light turns off after a while. Is the device still on?

When you turned on the headband, the indicator light will turn green to indicate that the device is fully charged or orange to indicate that the band is not fully charged. The indicator light goes off after 10 seconds. The device is still working, and you may continue with the headband setup in the app.

After I press the button for 1 second, the light flashes orange but quickly turns off. Why?

If the light on your headband is flashing two times quickly followed by a pause and then turns off when you release the button, it means the battery is critically low. You need to charge the device before use. It takes about 3 hours to complete the charge. For your convenience, it’s recommended that you plug the headband to charge after you take off your headband in the morning. This serves two purposes: 1) to end the sleep session so you can auto-sync with the app; and 2) to charge the device so it will be ready for the next use.

Can I begin a sleeping session without using the app?

Yes, after turning on the device (press the power button for 1 second), you can start the night by pressing the power button again for 1 sec to start your sleep session. The headband remembers the previous settings for the fall asleep sound and the alarm. If you need to change these settings, turn the Bluetooth on your phone and make your preferred changes under the “My Device” tab in the app. Hit the “start session” button when you are done, the new settings will automatically be sent to your headband.

The display on the “My Device” tab is grayed out and I cannot change the setting for the relaxing sound or the alarm. Why does this occur?

Your headband is not connected via Bluetooth with the SleepMapper app and/or the sensor signal is not found. Check to see if your headband is powered on (press the power button for 1 sec), and if your phone Bluetooth is turned on. You should hear the “searching sound” and see the “searching for EEG connection” message in your app. Once the EEG connection is established, you can now change your settings.

How do I know if the headband is working in the middle of the night?

To check the headband connection, press the power button for 1 second, and you should hear the “happy sound”. This means the headband sensor is connected and it is functioning properly.

If you don’t hear anything, your headband may have lost sensor connection and is now powered off. You can turn the headband back on and re-start the night. To do so, you can press the power button for 3 seconds to turn off the headband, and then press the button 1 second to start the night. If you enabled a falling asleep sound, it will start playing again. You can stop this by pressing another time on the button.

Do I have to keep the phone and Bluetooth on all night for the headband to work?

No, the headband and app do not communicate with each other during the night. Your phone could be turned off completely and the headband will still function normally. The Bluetooth on the headband turns off automatically when you are asleep and turns on for syncing data when you wake up.
