When the TV picture format is set to AUTOMATIC, the picture will adjust automatically, depending on the broadcast format.
In order to set a specific format, press the 'FORMAT' button on the remote control repeatedly to select WIDESCREEN or any other format that you feel comfortable with.
Sometimes bars on the sides of the picture cannot be removed. This is because the picture format is controlled by the broadcaster.
