    What is basic TV Mode on my Philips Google TV?

    Use basic TV on your Philips Google TV

    If you choose basic TV when you set up your Philips Google TV, you can: 
    • Finish setup faster
    • Use your device without a Google Account
    • Use your device without an internet connection
      • Without an internet connection, your device won’t be able to use streaming services.
      • Without an internet connection, your device won’t be able to get important security updates.
    Some features aren't available in basic TV.
    What you can do in basic TV
    • Watch TV through your cable service, satellite, TV tuner, or antenna with the TV app
    • Play media from other inputs plugged into the TV
    • Use a limited set of apps that come pre-installed on your device (IF you have connected your TV to the internet)
    What you can't do in basic TV
    • Use services and features that require you to sign in to your Google Account
    • Access your Play Library
    • Install apps
    • Use the Assistant to search for content
    • Cast content from another device

    How do I know which mode my TV is currently setup to use?

    1. Press the HOME button on the remote.
    2. If the home screen looks like the one below, with only the pre-installed apps visible and no tabs at the top, your TV is in basic TV Mode:

    How do I Switch from basic TV to Google TV?

    1. Press the HOME button on your remote control
    2. Using the thumb pad, scroll down to the Google TV banner.
    3. Set up Google TV will be highlighted.
    4. Press OK on the remote control.
    5. A second highlighted box labeled Set up Google TV will appear.
    6. Press OK on the remote 
    7. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up with the Home app or your remote. Get more help with your remote.

    Tip: If you already set up Google TV, you can’t switch to basic TV. To start setup again, you can factory reset your device.
